What is column C8?

This compound in stationary phase has Eight (8) carbon atoms in its alkyl chain. Furthermore, it tends to retain less analyte components than those in the C18 column. Therefore, a compound will elute faster on a C8 column.

However, it is less dense because it has fewer carbon atoms; the carbon chain length of this compound in stationary phase is short. Also, apolar compounds move rapidly down the column with the C8 column. It is mainly due to the lower hydrophobicity of compound C8.
